This is the final book in the series and wow, what a ride. I’m not going to lie, reading this series was exhausting emotionally and physically. So much happens to the characters and these are long books.

I was surprised at how good this series is. I shouldn’t have been because when my book group suggested it to me, I was unimpressed. Usually, I ignore suggestions because people like different things, and I tend to be picky. But something told me to go look it up.

The reviews RAVED about this series and I checked my kindle unlimited account to see if the series was there. It was. The stars definitely aligned for this book.

This finale has all the things to make it such a great read. It kept me guessing until the end. To be honest, I half expected everyone to die with how

things were going. Tissaanah is the strongest character I've ever read. She has so much good in her, despite everything that was done to her. I admit that I was happy when she burned lady zorkov to death.

Max was so heartbreaking to read about because he didn't remember Tissaanah and was imprisoned/tortured. I felt his pain and desperation.

Aefe is a complicated character who probably had me crying the most. She deserved happiness and I'm glad she got to enjoy Caduan even if it was short-lived. I have a feeling the author left that door open on purpose. I wouldn't mind reading more about Aefe.

The one thing that bothered me is we never get Tissaanah's vitiligo explained and what being "tainted" means. It was mentioned so much that it was odd that it never came to anything. Don't get me wrong, I love representation, but the author made it seem like it was more than that.

So happy everyone got what they deserved (Nura, dead and Max/Tissaanah, married with kids). It ends with a beautiful epilogue on how trauma is always there, but you can have a full life in spite of it.
