☠️ Belladonna — Review ☠️

caturbanski9

Rating: ✨4/5✨

Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Tropes: enemies to lovers, unknown powers, secret identity, drawn to darkness, forbidden love, love/hate, dark past, societal rule - virtue, historical

Triggers: familial death, suicide

Belladonna starts off with dark and dreary vibes that scream Edgar Allen Poe, as the MC tries to die by suicide to see death. The catch is…she knows she can’t die.

Everyone around Signa dies and she wants to get to the bottom of why because she thinks Death has it out for her. But does he?

I guessed literally every plot twist and that is why it lost a whole star. And I mean every twist. From when the author said at 11%, Sylas’s smile was a scythe, I was like so he’s Death. Lol. And yep, I was right. I also knew it was Percy who was poisoning everyone.

But I don’t feel like we uncovered all about Signa’s ability to emulate Death’s power. I’m happy there is a second book to delve deeper into her power. I also am excited to see more of Blythe.

I really enjoyed Blythe’s strength and her independence. Despite her being sick, she knew what she wanted for her future. She accepts that she needs no one but herself. I love how she encourages Signa to be happy and ignore societal standards.

I was pleasantly surprised by the spice in this book. It’s labeled YA, but the MC is 19 turning 20, so her being interested in sex makes sense. I labeled this as spicy because, for the time period, it is quite spicy.

Definitely recommend this book. Is it August 2023 yet?
